I don’t know what to expect from the plot of this book in the best way, but I almost don’t care what happens because I am enjoying this cast of characters so much. I imagine Alex and Noah would instantly appeal to the Heartstopper crowd (I keep accidentally calling Noah “Nick” in my head) but Sky, Jamie and Izzy are all immediately compelling as well. Enjoying this read so much!

Love the writing on this series! Don’t love the art. I love how Barbara is characterized. Barbara Gordon is scary and intimidating and audacious. People so often forget that.

I knew this protagonist was an English professor going in because it’s in the blurb but imagine my surprise when I found out she went to grad school for library science. I got 2 grad degrees because I couldn’t decide between those two career paths myself haha

I’m enjoying the writing so far (except when we’ve got to make sure to call the kidnapper hot repeatedly), but my god is this art distracting. It’s so obviously for the male gaze that it’s unnatural. I’m still stuck on the panel of Huntress upside down. No bra on earth will keep the girls looking like that against gravity. I’m so damn sick of half panels focused on Dinah or Helena’s ass or crotch.

Hard not to compare this to American Royals, when I loved that series so much. The three protagonists are reminiscent of three of the four protagonists of that series (Alix is like Beatrice, Helene like Samantha, and May like Daphne) and they haven’t quite won me over as much as those characters did. I think the comparison is most unflattering with May, who lacks the extent of depth Daphne had so far.

Definitely my least favorite Emily Henry book so far but for the record that standard is extremely high

“Spruce Wayne” is an excellent dnd character name

I know, I know, I'll stop starting new books when I'm already in the middle of a bunch soon (no, I probably won't) but I need to be a little more adventurous for work-related reader's advisory purposes and where else to start but with my fave Kelly Thompson. Anyone familiar with Comics Plus and want to recommend a teen/YA-friendly title on there?
