While Snyder's writing may not be the most eloquent, the world she has created is deep, complicated and dazzling. I can excuse the simplicity of the names "Castletown" and "Snake Forest" in exchange for the political commentary on Communism vs Capitalism, a unique version magical powers, delicate yet substantial in power, and so many multidimensional characters.

I am re-reading this books because I have had bad luck with the last two I tried to read so I figured I would start this series again since there are another 3 that have been written since I originally read the series!

I've given up on this book. I was disappointed in the story line, which I'd had high hopes for. The characters were barely tolerable and the overall pace of the book was either too rushed or terribly slow with too much detail. In the end I was feeling that it was a book that I HAD to read rather than WANTD to read. Back to the library with you Diana, Im tired of you.

Intriguing but the plot's pace is too quick. There's no time for reflection or inner character development.
