It’s a cute, easy read thus far but 2 “local color” errors are irking me: The HBCU in Columbia, SC is BENEDICT COLLEGE, not Bennett (a completely different women’s HBCU out of state). Also we don’t say “pop,” we say soda or Coke in SC. 😭

whew *fans self*
the fact that this is subtitled "An Interracial Romance" had me worried because the "team swirl" romance genre icks me out (i.e. fetishizing interracial romance rather than just telling us about two people in love who happen to be of different backgrounds), but that is the LEAST interesting part of this book. the sex scenes are fire.

This book is DELIGHTFUL, sad, deliciously flirtatious, real, raw...listening to the audiobook and thoroughly enjoying.

The passage about ‘Joshua’ is beautiful and instructive but there’s something beyond offputting about the way she describes some struggling individuals (like the moms smoking cigarettes in the line at the methadone clinic) and “unlikable” patients. She also talks a lot about “personal responsibility” which is always a red flag to me.

not her telling a survivor of sexual assault in the military how to feel and how she should forgive her abuser using Nelson Mandela as an example. 😬
i read this book of the strength of the selected chapter about patient autonomy in the face of carceral influences that was published as an article, but the author doesn’t really question the validity of these systems despite dropping all the SJ vocabulary.
