Skipped the story "Mr Trill in Hades", which is all about Greek mythology being retold with more accurate details and I was bored out of my mind.

I bought this in a used bookstore in Edinburgh while on vacation. The store owner told me that the book had sat unsold on his shelves for 19 years. I told him I'd bought the book intuitively, not even knowing why I was buying it. "But I've come to trust my intuition." I think he was disappointed by my answer. But I just finished the first story and it was brilliant.

Curious about Shinto, this is a book about that.

Love me an old timey book. Graham Greene mentioned the author and thought I'd check him out.

Reading Graham Greene's book "Ways of Escape", I regularly ran into the feeling that he was either not telling me the full story, he was being racist, or he was outright lying. When he discusses the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya, it felt like lies and racism. Digging into Kenya led me to this book and... Wow. Colonialism is bad, guys.

Greene is an unreliable narrator when it comes to his own life. His telling of how the Shirley Temple lawsuit went down? Not entirely believable. And he says he converted to Catholicism because of the intellectual arguments. No, he wanted to marry someone and converted. And what's with the bit about STDs and not eating tomatoes?

"I have beaten you, miserable world. You couldn't hold me back."

A bit of a downer. Have to read it and then take a break. It's a slog.

Bored. And the robot is profoundly dumb. Just wanting to see the end. Certain aspects of the story are unbelievable and stupid.

A bit simply written but enjoyable.

I heard Naomi Klein get interviewed by Ezra Klein and enjoyed it enough to buy her book.

Can't remember why I got this from the library. But the hold came through today.

I have stacks and stacks of books I mean to read and the. I go to the bookstore and pick something up and it's immediately at the top of the list.

Weird and creepy and satirical.

I don't know why I like Colin Wilson so much. He's kind of a kook. But his books are readable. And there are so many.

Really loving this book. It's got strong Catholic streaks through it, without being too preachy. Beautiful characters and lovely stories.

A Japanese pen pal mentioned this author. I looked through a list of his books and this one sounded the most interesting. The opening is very intense. Looks promising.
