Jane Somers is starting The Manuscripts Club: The People Behind a Thousand Years of Medieval Manuscripts
This was more interesting to me than I expected. My favorite part was when he compared the subject in Carl Spitzweg’s painting The Bookworm, Der Bücherwerm, (which is owned by the Milwaukee Public Library and on permanent loan to the Grohmann Museum) to one of the collectors in the book.

I loved it. It was another recommendation from Ann Patchett, and she rarely misses.
Julia Langbein is wickedly funny and a bit weird (in the way I like) but also really made me think. And I loved that the last sentence of her acknowledgments said that she loves her husband even though she can hear him chewing right now.

Jane Somers is starting A Week in Winter
I remember reading A Circle of Friends a zillion years ago when it came out and loving it. After finishing Marilynne Robinson’s Jack which was brilliant but sad, I was looking for something light and this was on sale.

I love the narrator though I don't love the book so far. But the entire thing will be worth it for this quote from a woman doctor who left a lecture by a man expounding on female sexuality: “But my dear Paul, women of any sense know better after all these centuries than to interrupt when men start telling them how they feel about sex.”

Jane Somers is starting The Once and Future King (The Once and Future King #1-4)
I know I read this in high school, but only remembered a little. My favorite parts were The Sword in the Stone and The Book of Merlin. Their influence on Harry Potter is quite obvious. It was interesting to read soon after The Mists of Avalon to compare and contrast.

This book is beautifully written. I don't want it to end. Marilynne Robinson is the best writer. End of discussion.

I bought this to give to my mom for Christmas. It was recommended by Bev at Boswell Books, and my mom always liked her. Also, I saw Geraldine Brooks when she came to Boswell on tour for this book. I'm sure Mom won't mind...
