Perhaps Didon is writing for people more intelligent than I. I thought the opening paragraph in The White Album was as deep and insightful as anything I have read about the human condition. However, I had to look up the words, accidie, Aristophantic and phantasmagoria.

Not a quick or easy read. Interesting and well written, but lots of detail and names, places and relationships. I sometimes get confused as to where we are going with all this. My bad. She is obviously a brilliant person and accomplished writer.
