Probably a strange choice for someone who is neither male nor a parent, but amusing nonetheless. The staunchly anti-crunchy vibe is annoying.

So far this book has been reminicent for me--of Anna's first days in the dorms at boarding school (or for me, college) and of experiencing Paris for the first time (okay, fine, I wasn't at some fancy boarding school, but Paris was the first place I traveled alone and it was overwhelming!)

Not really sure what pg # I'm on, it's an Agatha Christie collection on my nook, but let me just say: Hastings is an idiot.

Finals week after an unexpected break is stressful. I need some Agatha Christie to help me relax.

The beginning is slow and calm, yet terrible. Hindsight being 20/20, you know what's going to happen if the Zeitouns don't flee Katrina, and you want to scream at the characters to leave. An almost unbearable feeling of impending danger.

Kind of disorienting, but in a good way. Adds to the mysterious/magical feeling.

So far, a perfect book for a 4th snow day. Reading keeps the crazy away.

Summarizes the problem and explains what needs to be done, but we already know all that. Addresses student attitude and work ethic at length (yey!) but not how to integrate to standards-based grading.
