Deborah Schiffrin is one of my favorite writers/scholars. She explains theories and demonstrates how to apply them in a clear way. I keep this book on my shelf and find it useful for discourse analysis research.

Grateful for Tannen’s work in this book. She’s contributed so much to the field of interactional sociolinguistics however this book is highly accessible for readers who do not have a background in linguistics.
