"Wandering Rocks" episode has an engrossing flow like a cinematic montage but totally lost my moorings in "Sirens". Ploughing on, nevertheless...

By the time I have come to the end of Chapter 6, I seem to have got the hang of Joyce's writing. There is obscurity, but there is also great beauty. A complex creation.

Finally started on this and finished the first three chapters (section 1) - with copious help from Google!

After a first chapter which deals with Jewish, Christian, Greek and Roman wives, the book dives into Medieval Europe. It is silent on wives in Islam, India and the Far East. This book should be called a 'A History of the Wife in the West', by rights.
