I highly recommend getting at least halfways through this book so that, at the very least, you can read about what happens to Miss Archer's copy of War and Peace. That was a sort of unexpected turn 🤔 Now I must find out if it's even relevant to the rest of the book. Onward!

It's giving dystopian... Mysterious.... Dark... And the narrator has alluded to Jane Eyre more than once already, and that HAS to be a good sign. I'm letting my guard down and setting my hopes high. Don't let me down, Harrison.

Ohhhhh I get it. Now it's giving Dorian Grey. But I still don't know what's going on.

I have no idea what's going to happen in this book, but I'm getting mild "Silent Patient" vibes. Our main character is Dorothy, a girl with a vision for the future and a name from the past. A bit of an awkward, loner type, she describes herself as being "not pretty," but I've seen enough 90s films to know that if she just takes off her glasses and slaps on some lip gloss she'll be drop dead gorgeous.

One chapter in and I've already cried. This book has the potential to wreck me, and I'm setting my expectations high.

I don't know what the limit is for the maximum number of times the word "palimpsest" can reasonably be used in a book, but I am certain that this author has exceeded it.

Lisa See wrote it, so I already know it will be five stars.

I've often fantasized about dismantling the patriarchy, but this author said "you know what? That's not enough." And proceeded to write men out of existence entirely. I mean, go big or go home, right? I am HERE FOR IT. A note for the narrator of the audiobook though: not everyone in the south sounds like Scarlet O'Hara...

Have you ever gotten into a fight with a wood chipper and then had to drag your mangled body to safety? That's what it's like trying to make it to the end of this book. If one more person "snorts" instead of laughs, istg... And I am filled with rage at the use of the made-up word "anyhoodles." I have 3 words for you, Ali Hazelwood: HOW DARE YOU

All the way up to chapter 26 now, though not much has really happened since my last update other than Serena is dying of horny.

Chapters 8-11: we learned the reason behind Serena's violent vomiting. Well, sort of. Now it seems we're just trying to find out who tf Serena really is, like at a chromosomal level. Oh and she's still super hot for the guy who's insanely rude to her but also desperately wants her. But things are neither hot nor heavy. Yet.

Chapter 6-7: completely forgot what happened in chapter 6 (immediately after reading it). In chapter 7 things are finally getting a little steamy, even though it was just a dream. But it was ultimately quite anticlimactic and was immediately followed by Serena violently vomiting. I appreciated the vivid descriptions of the odor and appearance of the vomit ⭐⭐⭐

Chapters 4 and 5: uneventful. When do we get to the knotty parts??

Chapter 3: in which Koen and Serena take turns insulting each other, while at the same time Serena is realizing how vulnerable she really is and suddenly this big strong (asshole) guy is looking like a snack. Will the big strong werewolf save the helpless lonely hybrid? Come on Serena, we all learned as little girls that boys are only mean because they like you! How romantic 😍

Chapter 2: Koen has imprinted on Serena and is kind of a dick about it. Still stupid.
