Sue is starting The Overstory
I was very excited about this book till about halfway point and then the tendency toward melodrama went over the top (see what I did there?) I’m giving it 4 stars only because I learned so much about trees and view them a different way. The people all became intensely annoying and I didn’t feel like the author was intending that. But maybe he was.

Very little has happened so far other than a few characters moving around and so much reminiscence about past books. I feel like she has run out of yarn and is knitting with scraps. Not sure if I will be able to finish.

I am listening to this for the voice of Roman. I am just interested enough in the content for it and to be a relaxing distraction.

Not sure this is the best time to be listening to this but it’s like the narrator and the prose.

Sue is starting The Wind in the Willows
This is one of the stories read for relaxation and sleep on the Calm app. It was a book that had a strong presence in my childhood. We lived on a river and identified with the anthropomorphic creatures and their appreciation of nature. To this day I often refer to a crazy day or bumpy ride as “Mr Toad’s Wild Ride.” Ironically, I’ve never actually read it from beginning to end!

I'm not one to go looking for post-apocalypse stories. But this one is amazing. So well crafted. It could be relentlessly miserable but it's also fascinating which keeps the misery from taking over. I am listening to it and it is extremely well narrated. It's delicious torture, wanting it to go slow so I don't have to be done but unable to stop listening!

The story to be this long with so much foreshadowing is a bit slow but I love the narrator. (I've read it before so I know what is being foreshadowed but it is mostly new to me because I read it a long time ago.) The narrator's voice for Owen Meany is amazing.

Yay! After rereading all 7 of her previous books via audio, I am finally launching the only one I haven't read! I felt compelled to reread because I had forgotten much of it. I think this is partly because I skimmed when I was reading. And to tell the truth, I am ready to be done. There ARE other books in my queue and these books are overpacked with fluff. But I need to know how it all ends.

"Wise parents never go around talking about what a good job they did raising their kids. For one thing we know the job is never over, and for another, the kids deserve the credit--if only for surviving all the training mistakes we made."

"Men may congratulate themselves for writing truly and passionately about the movements of nations; they may consider war and the search for God to be great literature's only subjects; but if men's standing in the world could be toppled by an ill-advised choice of hat, English literature would be dramatically changed."

Prepping to read The Hours by Michael Cunningham. Actually listening and I can listen to anything read in a soothing British accent, even if I cannot totally follow it.
