First chapter done - full of lazy stereotypes already!

"only main line built to the Berne loading gauge standards" - arrrgh! Another book repeating this falsehood. The line had been complete for fifteen years before those standards were agreed. It was built to the UK standards of the day.

"Every cell in [character]'s body" - this phrase has been used about 50 times.

It's already shaping up to be annoying. It contains at least three Portentous-Sounding Terms With Capital Letters That Are Unexplained, and goes on about absolutely rigidly applied Laws. What is it about YA books and this shit?

Still not entirely sure why I'm doing this to myself.

I hope this starts making sense soon. Already thinking it might be a DNF. First book was a chore to get through and I can see this going the same way.
