Probably unwise to start this just as I’m starting my masters but I also just finished a big translation project and I’m hungry to read a novel, and this looks like a good novel

This is meant to be really long-winded and badly written, honestly so far it’s a tiny bit repetitive but really fun, and taking apart some of the 19th century novel conventions in an interesting way

'What is to be done?' by Nikolai Chernyshevsky. LORD knows what I'm doing reading this huge thing in the run-up to finals (my edition is 574 pages), but just about everything else I study was influenced by him in one way or another, so it feels like I don't have a choice

‘Discourse in the novel’ by Bakhtin — I’m just angry there’s no separate English-language edition to put on goodreads, it’s a book so I’m marking it as a separate book even if it’s only one part of the English collection
