Even though Meg is shown as only a child in the world of shapeshifters, she holds a sense of authority among the other people. "'And we should've listened to you(315).'" With a grown up adult telling Meg this, it proves that even though she seems to be naive, in reality, she can probably be a better leader than any of the people there.

Rick and the group have seen a lot. From watching their very own friends get bitten and killed to leaving someone behind, each member in the group is fighting their very own emotional battle over the ones they lost. "The fact is--in most cases, now, the way things are--you kill--you live". Now, they are all surrounded by death. You need to kill to survive or be killed. To save their friends, they have to kill others.

As Rick and the group's time in the apocalypse lengthens, they each are pulled under some sort of stress. "You kill. You die...We're going to hang him." After Thomas had killed two little girls in Rick's group, Rick is charged up by vengeance to kill off Thomas even though he's not evil, just crazy. Instead of reasoning it out peacefully, Rick gets into a heated argument over his decision about what to do with Thomas

Rick is catching up fast to the change in the world only shortly after waking up from his coma. "I know he's young, but just for safety's sake, he's going to be carrying his own gun from now on." This shows that because Rick is allowing his seven year old son to carry and use a gun, it shows how he is starting to forget the morals of the old world. This may be dangerous because it can make him a reckless character.

Wren Connolly is making out to be a specific unique kind of character."Disobeying orders meant death. And then I was silent(9)." This shows that Wren is made out to be a perfect soldier with no emotion and only physical capabilities. Being such a controlled being, the reader can predict that Wren is going to crack out of her emotional skull sooner or later.

In the land of wonderland, the characters are different from what we are used to. "- and the twinnkling of the tea-... The twinkling of the what?... It began with the tea... Of course twinkling begins with a T!(126)" Each character interprets each other differently, causing communication to be creative and a fun play of words. This makes the reader wonder about the deeper meaning behind the silly dialogue.

Alyssa has not only just gained a new pair of wings,but also gained the sense of confidence. "..I might need those other voices in order to fit into my own skin. In order to be myself. I feel the same way about my wings... I flew. I. Flew. I wasn't afraid. I was in control, strong, free. Alive(274)." Al now feels confident to break her family's curse and save Jeb. With this confidence, she can achieve anything.

Callie has grown to be someone that isn't afraid of taking risks. Even if it leaves the relationship with your only friend in peril. "She got up and put her hand to her nose. Blood trickled from beneath it... And i hit her again to be sure(204)." With Sara being her only friend throughout everything, Callie is willing to damage her enough so that she won't be chosen to rent out her body even though she doesn't know.

The main character, Callie really cares for her little brother. "That reminded me of Tyler, the only thing keeping me in that chair(7)." This shows that just for the money and food for Tyler, Callie is willing to rent her body to the Enders even though she is almost blind to what may go wrong. Even though the process is dangerous and not trust worthy, Callie thinks it's worth it just for her beloved brother.

Fish is important to the Alaskan culture and is even sometimes brought to the extreme. "It's the gamble they all take, no fish, no money, no living. And then a glow came to his face. In the end, he lives to be on the water to fish, fishing is his life(22)." Even though people can get killed in fishing accidents, people still join in the frenzy of hoping for the one lucky catch of swimming money.

Una is starting to change in character and beginning to open up a bit more. "'I will,' she says in Arapache(350)" Just the two words show that she has come out of her shell and from her own misery of her lover's death. Just two words show that she is now determined to make a change and actually do something with herself. Just two words show that she has hope that things can get better from then on.

Una still has intense feelings for her fiance Will."She should have never allowed this to happen, but she can't let go of this ill-gotten hands. And she finds it almost as hard to break away from the kiss(321)" Even though Cam has the hands of her beloved lover, he still has them. He still has a part of Will that she dearly loves. No matter how much she hates Cam, Will will always be a part of him that she can't deny

Grace is a unique character with a unique backstory. "'I know they call me a low-cortical and all, but even so, I got this one corner of my brain that's like Grand Central Station. Stuff that other people can't figure out comes easy to me(313).'" Even though Grace was looked down upon by her brother, she is worth much value. Just because she isn't academically advanced, she is survivalwise and strategically advanced.

Eventhough Hayden was portrayed as one of the good guys in the last book, he can be manipulative and powerful when he wants to. "By now she has Hayden backed against the wall, and yet he appears at ease. Instead she feels like the one who's cornered(268)". Even Bam, the tough as nails girl feels hesitant when talking to Hayden, like things may end up taking away lives instead of saving them.

In the end, the cops couldn't care less for the AWOL unwinds they are hunting. "It's one thing to look the other way, but quite another to release a criminal (261)." This means that they can actually solve the government's problems but instead, they have indifference towards the outcasts of society.

Maybe Roland isn't as bad as everyone says he is. Everyone thinks that just because Roland is the "tough guy". "The very idea that he and Roland could in any way be on the same side makes him feel like he swallowed something rancid.(207)" This shows that Connor doesn't like to think about the fact of working with Roland eventhough they barely know each other. Instead, I feel like he should get to know him more.

Writing the book has really changed the characters in perspective. By working together, Skeeter, Aibileen, and Minny have bonded together despite their colors. "'This one, this is for the white lady. You tell her we love her, like she's our own family.'" Before the book, the two races wouldn't dare do anything for each other. But after the book, they see her as a real, kind person despite their color and race.

Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter are not yet fully aware of the risk that they are taking.By writing a book based on the help's stories of helping white people, they may cause huge controversy. "we haven't really discussed the actual consequences besides the maids losing their jobs(585)." This shows that they haven't thought about the possibilities of physically getting scarred. The big risk they took cannot be undone.

Aibileen is starting to trust Miss Skeeter with her emotions even though they are both different races. "I go quiet, thinking of Hilly's bathroom plan and accusing the maid of stealing and her talk of diseases. The name comes out flat, bitter as a bad pecan(201)" This shows that Aibileen is clearly expressing her emotions clearly to Miss Skeeter, trusting her enough that she doesn't tell anyone and keeps it a secret.

Aibileen is a very literal and serious character. "And Miss Skeeter asking don't I want to change things like changing Jackson, Mississippi, gone b like changing a lightbulb (45)." Even when Miss Skeeter mentioned to Aibileen about changing how life is right now for the better, she finds it hard to believe, thinking that it is impossible and impractical to think such things are easy and harmless to do.

From meeting Edward Prince, Juliet has developed a strong relationship with him. "He'd punched Father in the mouth... 'He made you cry,'(225)."This shows that Edward is willing to hurt Juliet's own father just for her safety even though he knows that type of person her father is. Edward is willing to protect Juliet by all means and Juliet the same.

Juilet is starting to see the other side of her father that she has never been thought to discover. "Father's eyes glowed like embers. Like a storm, the tension in the air returned, crackling like lightning(108)." This is Juilet's father's reaction right before he pushed an innocent man to drown and die. Maybe her father is a madman as people have said. Someone who takes pleasure in drowning people is likely insane.

Benny and Nix are building a relationship beyond their friendship. "It was the wrong time, the wrong place, the wrong circumstances. There was nothing right in their whole world. Except that kiss(338)" Benny and Nix are helping each other survive in the cruel world that they are living in. After they have lost basically everything, they are still hopeful of what is to happen because they have each other now.

The kidnappers of Nix really want Benny and Tom to be dead and gone. When they went to go and try to get Nix back, the kidnappers have set a bunch of traps to get them off their pursuit. "Benny kept screaming as the horse galloped at full speed, away from the collapsing walls..right into the sea of zombies(285)." The kidnappers exploded a rock wall so Benny can go charging towards a sea of zombies-right to his death.

The relationship between Nix and Benny is something strong. When Nix was kidnapped, Benny was determined to find her by all means. "Nothing in there would be a clue to finding her, but having it felt like a talisman(242)." Just by having Nix's notebook, something that she felt so dear to, Benny would feel like it is his duty to protect his best friend even if it means sacrificing his own.

Tom is being secretive. Even when Benny was asking him about his experience with the lost girl, Tom kept going off topic and acting mysterious. "'It's up to her what she chooses to tell you, but as far as I'm about to share, that's confidential.(194)'" This means that for 14 years, Tom had always kept everything from Benny and always kept his job a secret. Why he does this, is still unsure. What has he got to hide?

Benny is determined to find out who the lost girl is. "Benny's hand moved so fast that it surprised everyone. One second his fingers were open and empty, and the next they were knotted in the front of Morgie's shirt.(123)" This shows that just by looking at a trading card with the lost girl on it, he would protect that card by force from his life-long friends. Benny may set out just to find the lost girl.

June is changing into a more serious and determined person. Ever since her brother Matia has died, she has set her heart and mind to finding the killer and avenge. "Day's exploits used to fascinate me. But now he is my matched enemy-my target. My first mission(49)"In the past, June has always been a naive girl that just wants to have fun. But now, she has lost her family and is starting to see the cruel world.

June is a very nonchalant person. Being the top student of the Republic, she takes advantage of being treated as a jewel. "...well, it wasn't my fault I had to scale the side of a nineteen-story building with a XM-621 gun strapped to my back. It was self-improvement, for the sake of my country(13)" When June leaves campus to climb a skyscraper, she gets scolded, but she doesn't feel guilt since she did it to improve.

Gordon is turning out to be a very reliable man. Even when Doniger and his crew brought him to their faculty, Gordon can still see through their words and actions. "'They don't trust anybody,' Gordon said, 'Believe me, nobody gets in here unless we intend for them to get in(146)."Gordon can see that Doniger brought them over just for his sake and can see right through his plans and his thoughts towards them.
