Mia is on page 150 of 416 of The Seabird's Cry: The Lives and Loves of the Planet's Great Ocean Voyagers
Each vignette is so perfect that I am reading this book a little at a time, when I want to escape to the wild islands where these birds live. Nicolson’s writing is so poetic, capturing the beauty and reality of existence in extreme environments.

Mia is on page 100 of 242 of The Bestseller Code: Anatomy of a Blockbuster Novel
I heard the author on NPR and the book sounded very interesting, especially for someone like me who reads two books a week. I almost NEVER read the bestsellers, so I thought I could learn from this book. What am I missing by never reading these books? Also two friend actually wrote a book and I read it in draft and thought I could learn about what to look for. So far, this book is meeting my expectations.

I started reading this at the recommendation of another Goodreads member. I happen to be traveling in Eastern Europe and the book begins with the father of the current Koch brothers and his business deals with Hitler.

The constantly shifting points of view are distracting and, unfortunately I really don't like the main character, Jules. I am going to finish it quickly though.

I am wondering if the mother is truly present but don't tell me. I read fast and expect to finish the book tomorrow.

Mia is on page 60 of 360 of The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective
The author has linked this crime to the cultural milieu in which it occurred and it is fascinating. When I visit London, I usually stay in the Holborn area and since some of the characters have connections to this district, this is also very interesting.

Not a promising beginning to a mystery. Some books have a character or mastermind who is just too dark for me.

Mia is finished with The Oath: The Obama White House and The Supreme Court
I always enjoy reading Jeffrey Toobin's books. They are impeccably researched and bring the character of the participants alive. He doesn't just explain what the justices did and how they voted, he explains why, delving into their political philosophies. He reads, interviews, and evaluates their opinions. I gained new insights into Kennedy, Scalia, and Thomas. I am looking forward to his next book.
