The title is stupid and the nickname, "Juicy" as other reviewers have said, is gross and misogynist. What editor allowed the title of this book and that atrocious and salacious nickname? Its not funny or cute. It tells me her brother and his friend sexually harassed her as a teen and joke about it to normalize the behavior continuing the abusive harassment for decades.

As interested as I am in the book's subject, the amount of focus I need to digest her prose is academic. In short, I'm bored. This level of academic reading is behind me and at this point in my life, my attention-span for academic has long-form essay limits. Maybe a journal article in Thoreau Studies, The Concord Saunterer, which I'm sure will review this book.

The essay, Fascinated to Presume, is comforting, jarring, beautiful, all the things. "How many compassionate stories about the other do we need to tell you before you see us as fully human, the way you see yourself". This is an essay about the relationship between fiction writers and their readers. Good stuff.
