What an amazing engaging life Stephen and Anne Carr lived and how forcefully and creatively they resisted the conventional expectations - agricultural/ missionary - of the mid 20th century and onwards in favour of sitting under the deeper wisdom of those smallholders in Sudan and elsewhere. What an inspiration!

Still heavy going and slow !

I dimly recall having tried to read this book before! It’s complex and multilayered. With confusing dynamics as I try to work out the twins. Underlying cultural norms being teased away and highlighted critically and blown way by the random insights of childhood.

Very funny. I’m getting used to having seen it first during Lockdown and having bought the book from Oxfam thinking there was something a bit familiar about the title!

Great start on Ynys Enlli with Shearwaters and wild swimming before going to the formidable awesome wildness of Coruisk on Skye in the shadows of the Cuillins.
