I understand the writer's desire to adequately quote her sources, but ENOUGH with the "likes"! Just because people pepper their speech with that word, you don't actually have to say it! Makes it so hard to follow their thoughts!

One major problem so far, aside from all of the unnecessary detail is the fact that even though this is set in 1989, Kinsey talks like she is living in the 2000s when this book was actually written. She goes on about drought and the demise of newspapers and other things that seem totally out of place. Halfway through and still don't know the point of this one yet, very frustrating! 1 1/2 books left!

Still not too impressed. Not sure if this is typical for this series, but what is up with all the sex talk?? Every character is obsessed with sex, even during police interviews, really?? Ridiculous. Not sure if I will be able to finish this one. Not everyone drops F bombs every other word either, except in this book. Author should just write porn and be done with it. This book is a really ugly, hard read.

This is soooooo hard to get through! I usually breeze through these books, but the last few have been a slog. I must finish, but this is painful and boring.

I have never wanted to reach into a story and shake someone as much as I do Fixie (and that name, come on!) She is so annoying. I understand that she has low self-esteem and needs encouragement, but her inability to stand up for herself is annoying - especially because her siblings are so vapid ad clearly wrong, yet Fixie is made to believe she is the one who doesn't get it.

50% done still not sure why Beth likes Max, is it because she is young and dumb? He is awful!

20% done will finish this book, but this will be the last book I read by this author. Every female character in this book, is hateful and judgemental for absolutely no reason, particularly of other women. As soon as Beth sees someone, without the person saying a word, she makes a snap judgement that is mean and off base.

OMG, stop with the sex scenes and romance already!! I am not a prude, but Tess is literally running for her life from a crazed killer, she is a victim of physical abuse since childhood and her ex almost killed her multiple times, yet NOW she is unable to restrain herself from being drawn to JT?? He is definitely the kind of man that someone as damaged as her would seek out, but the constant sex is out of place.

The tone of this book is very confusing. Even though it should be chilling, due to the subject matter of trying to cover up a hit and run, the author tries to infuse the story with humor and snark that feels completely out of place. Maybe she will realize it, but all Katherine has to do is record one of her conversations with Eve and she will be able to get out from under her threats.

It is interesting to me how quickly this book is moving so far...years are going by very quickly. One of the main characters, Eliza, is very judgemental of someone she literally just met, calling her a "slut" and other unsavory names, just because she is her husband's ex and she is this way with others she has just met as well. An odd characterization for a protagonist...are we supposed to hate her?

It points to how boring a book is when you end up focusing on a relatively minor detail to the exclusion of the actual story details, but it makes no sense that the Sammy story is focusing on her school absences; the story begins in the summer and she is going to school...does she attend year-round? I live in MO, that isn't really a thing here. A small detail, but it has thrown me for a loop.

Another downfall to listening to an audio book, rather than reading a physical book; I can't skim past the boring parts. The part that is really driving me crazy though is how Maura's supposed death has been handled. NO ONE in law enforcement thought it would be a good idea to get a positive ID before they held a funeral? They just assumed that the body they found was hers because it looked similar? Ridiculous!

Suffering through the terrible narration on the audio book; I can't imagine what notes or direction the narrator was given, but it is terrible.
I am blown away by the choice to have two characters have sex within 5 minutes of meeting, even though they are meeting to discuss the death of the first family's son. So jarring and unnecessary to the overall story, even though it is meant to be sexy. Awful choice

I really, really want her to get to the point. Moriarty's writing can be fun and entertaining, but she also is a master of belaboring the point (and that is not a compliment). I really should start her books at the end and work my way backward, since she tends to tell her stories in reverse order, building up to a big reveal that generally isn't as big or revealing as she thinks it will be.
