Krys is starting What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America
I checked this out today for the second time from the Boston Public Library after catching its NYT review floating among links in my newsfeed. Hopefully I'll finish it this round.

You will subjugate the unknown beings on other planets, who may still be living in the primitive condition of freedom, to the beneficent yoke of reason. If they fail to understand that we bring them mathematically infallible happiness, it will be our duty to compel them to be happy.

Krys is starting The Comforts of Madness
I was surprised to see something from 1988 recommended by the New York Times today. I was more pleasantly surprised to see it was available for checkout at both of my libraries here. It's been compared to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which is precisely the work that came to mind as I was reading its synopsis. Additionally, its prelude mentions Kafka. I admit I have high hopes for this one.

Krys is starting The Giver (The Giver, #1)
I'd like to reread this so that I can talk about it more with, uh...a kid who might find it under a tree. Yeah.

Krys is starting Mrs. Dalloway
I was reading an article in The Atlantic titled The Invisibility of Older Women in which the author mentioned this book when I remembered I had fairly recently snagged a copy in order to scratch the title off my "existential literature" wishlist. As I enter middle age (?), I catch myself asking myself the superficially simple question, "how have I changed?" only to realize a valid answer goes much deeper.

Krys is starting The Supernatural Enhancements
I found this seemingly interesting book at the Not-So-Little Free Library near the Irish Famine Memorial in Downtown Boston and couldn't resist bringing it home with me. I'm really excited to get started reading it, which is apparent to me considering how many other books suddenly fell down a tier on Mt. TBR. The first impression it delivers somehow reminds me of Doug Dorst's and J. J. Abrams's S. Hmm.

This was the coolest birthday gift. I'm taking my good ol' time with it.

Nothing to say, really. I was looking for some new sci-fi.

Krys is starting The Lifecycle of Software Objects
I found this title among a list of recommended independent sci-fi authors. I was about to bother one of the independent bookstores in town to see if I could order a copy, but did a double-check to see if the library could get a copy through ILL. Only had to wait one day!

I received an email from another reading app reminding me this was in my TBR list (along with a title from J. G. Ballard I can't seem to find anywhere) and decided to bother TCPL. I really do love this library.

Ah, yet another book potentially questioning the meaning of life and death. There are a lot of these in my personal library.
