Oof! This is the complete opposite of what I was expecting, the first story was about a woman having to choose a career or love. The second story was a woman having a relationship with a married man and wishing the wife dead o_O

Taylor is a complete asshole and she is also crushing hard on pretty much every girl in her life. I wanna roll my eyes that she crushes on everyone then I remember being her age and am in awe of how spot on it is!

It continues to feel like a super clumsy metaphor. If this whitest author ever doesn't realise that it seems like she is drawing comparisons to racial segregation and the one drop rule, that somehow feels even worse. At the same time, the plot has me feeling kind of intrigued. I guess I possibly like the idea of the story at the heart without the clumsy metaphor element? I don't really know...

So far it seems like a clumsy metaphor for race written by the whitest author ever...

This is a romance so I completely expect them to end-up together but I really, really don't want them to, their friendship is so freaking beautiful and I don't want it to change. Also, the "romance" is super heavy-handed and I just want to scream at her to stop objectifying him!

Not sure how I feel about some of the revelations. I can't say that I couldn't see them coming but that doesn't stop them feeling very wrong

The chapters are sooooo long and the plot is somewhat meh so far. Possibly something is lost in translation bit it is feeling like a slog

It is a little weird so far and doesn't seem to completely work as an audiobook. Also, the character mentions being a fan of Hunger Games then acts like Panem et Circuses is revolutionary....

I am having a hard time staying engaged with this book, probably because it feels a bit confused. Sometimes it is focusing on art, then on the prejudices of European conquests, then on the industrial age in the UK. What is this book about?!?!

Very questionable storyline about a very drunk girl inviting a guy back to her room for sex and him turning her down. Yay for not having sex with someone too drunk to consent but never acknowledging this as a valid reason and having other characters also fail to acknowledge this... Supes creepy

So far the way that co-workers are described is a little uncomfortable. There have been two female characters whom the protag has been ogling. Some stereotyping of gay men too.

So far this book is very lukewarm for me. The concept doesn't feel fresh and the dialogue feels contrived at times. The narrator makes the accents very grating at times too.

I don't know what to make of this audiobook. The narrator for Grace is awful, she sort of drawls in a bored way but also feels like she is speaking really quickly. There having been a couple of weird pronunciations from the Charlie narrator which I am guessing is a regional thing but still grated. The story is kind of gripping but very unbelievable. Nobody is likeable and there are some really weird moments ...

The language and format of this book makes it tough to read but this feels like an incredibly important book. This book's focus is the court system in England and Wales. At present I am learning about the Magistrates Courts and how biased and unjust they are and proposals to essentially make them more unjust. The wider context of this is terrifying.

I think that I have realised the problem with this book, there is basically no character arc for the protag, he is just a bit of a shit from start to (pressumably) finish

The pacing still feels a little sluggish but I am intrigued to see where the story goes...

Clearly it has been far too long since I read the original trilogy as any Easter Eggs are completely lost on me. The pacing is so slow right now too :(
