This book is every acid trip I've never taken. If I did drugs...I'm pretty sure this is how my mind would operate or rather disfunction. I can't even tell you about the craziness I've read to this point. I'm really not sure what keeps me turning the page because this book is horrible!!!

I don't want to go to sleep when I could keep reading. This book is too good not to finish in 24 hours!!!

Whatever is going on in Hilton's head... is a LOT! I am here for the dreams, the deja vu, all the mental turmoil he is experiencing. It feels as if pieces of alternative stories are happening at the same time. Almost like concurrent lives with alternate endings.

The first chapter SUCKS! Chapter 8 is when it gets decent. Right now it's okay, really just want to get the book over with so I can get to the next one. I don't like the author's portrayal of Harriet Tubman, I find it reductive to give her powers that minimize the skill and knowledge it took to free so many enslaved people.

I'm only reading because I'm committed to finish this book. The short stories have been all over the place with their themes. But at least they were short. I'm now into the longer 'chapters', there's four of them which are connected and they are incredibly dull. These four stories have to do with two college professors, a paper about the male gaze on lesbian porn, and a class on loneliness.

I've read 4 short stories so far and I'm not really finding a common thread outside of all of this is happening within the same fictional city. I'm in a state of confusion at this point of the book. The short stories themselves are strange. I did like the one about 'nigger knocking' as well as the one about servant robots. Overall, I'm enjoying it enough to continue...

I have yet to see the relevance of all that I have read. I've yet to even make sense of what I've read. This book is more the source of a migraine than enjoyment so it's going on my DNF pile for the time being. I may return to it just so I can say I finished it. I'm not sure.

Just now getting something more than nonsense and ramblings. It's bad enough this book isn't broken into chapters but the dialogue is rambling and circumvents the point. It's not until page 44 that you get a hint at what the book is about! I ALMOST quit on this book. #FrustratedAF

I feel like Queenie is my literal embodiment the same way Issa is my cinematic embodiment. I feel her struggles so deeply they bring tears to my eyes. Yes, the situations she faces are themes universal to women but it feels like the author is still managing to single me out to strum my pain with her fingers...

Bird is holding onto a lot he expects Miriam to solve. No relationship will work when one party is dependent on the other for their happiness and sanity. With this bomb she just dropped...what is about to happen?!?!

The psychology major in me loves this book. The African American Studies major can't put it down. Rarely do i buy a book at full price, but I'm so glad I did for this one! Smoke, Shadow, and Asughara have been introduced with a brief cameo by Yshwa. I'm really loving the story from Asughara's point of view.

While the book isn't boring because I actually do have the desire to read it. I'm not sure why progress with this book is going so slow... it's not exactly a page-turner but I do enjoy it. The peak into a mindset that is still present in this day even as our race attempts to heal itself and love itself is heavy.

I absolutely love this book. The story of a Haitian American girl trying to figure out life, love, and family in America. She sees and incorporates her Haitian values into her American life and the dissonance makes for a page-turning read. The book has the feel of the writings of Sistah Souljah from her books involving Midnight's story.

So many different storylines to follow and I flip the page quickly to follow all of them. OMG, about the Dad's hand!!!

Wow! What is she gonna do?!?!?!

I'm just not really into the book at this point but I'll keep reading because I've started. A few off things have happened, but nothing to make this book a page-turner at this point.
