Man, socialist talking points haven’t changed in 100 years….

Then again, neither has capitalist greed.

Oh ow, framing CPTSD as “eh anyone can be hyper aware of their surroundings and know that small details mean big trouble for you, it’s no biggie”, my feels

I know we’re using “unalived” to be funny here but also, come on. 😒

Upton Sinclair: “The Jungle is about the necessity of socialism.”
Me: “The Jungle is about the plight and exploitation of immigrants.”
Everyone in 1905: “omg we treat animals so badly and the meat processing business is gross :(“

In a way, I’m reminded of The Glass Castle, with the father insisting on doing things his way to the extreme detriment of his own family.

Why do we need one whole (LONG!!!) chapter of one character narrating her own personal death march

“‘One…two…three…four…’ The windows were being counted. ‘Five’. This word meant the fifth window from the end.”

Paid!! By!! The!! Word!!!

For Noden’s sake, someone get Stix her glasses

I keep zoning out and finding I haven’t missed a damn thing

I am oscillating wildly between “yeah this is the girl version of Catcher” and “this is SUCH a teenage book omg”

I love when a plan is so completely and utterly terrible that it’s only going to blow up in their faces

This feels very much like the girl equivalent of “Catcher in the Rye”

The secondhand embarrassment is clawing its way out of my throat and I hate it

This is excruciating to get through

Boy of boy was Dickens paid by the word or what

“Teacher’s pay was notoriously low and classrooms were often overcrowded.” Good to know nothing has changed since 1943
