Jordan Van is finished with Persuasion (Penguin English Library) by Jane Austen (26-Apr-2012) Paperback
Not my cup of tea so far. Why are the sentences ridiculously long? Couldn’t summarize what’s happened to save my life. It’s lacking character descriptions, so I’m struggling to keep them straight. Walter is 45 and Anne grew out of being pretty - that’s all I’ve got. Some man got married, a lady isn’t happy about it, and an estate is up for grabs. Yawn.

I’ve read 15 full books out of 73, but I’ve been going for the short ones. Calculating my percentage based on page count has made me realize how little of the Bible I have actually read. Sure, I’ve read other partial chapters, but I need to get a move on!

I’m still unsure if this book would be a good fit for the person I had in mind when I purchased it, but it’s giving me a lot to think about.

I find it interesting that the author chose McKinley’s assassination and managed to work John Nepomuk Schrank into the narrative - I’ve learned a lot. The revelations about the self-centeredness of man towards the end of chapter 17 will continue to withstand time unless something changes. Looking forward to seeing how it wraps up.

Really liked Mike’s rant on pages 225 & 226. A lot of reviews of this book say there is nothing likable about Mike, but I feel like he’s a honest portrayal of a human. Copernicus Greene is who they should be loathing.

Been pondering why there is no insight to the relationship between Mike and his son, providing any reason for his extensive effort to get him back when in any other regard he only truly cares about himself. I think this infers a god-complex, hyper-fixation, or self-reliance that our human nature tends to resort to in times of despair. Appreciated the allusion to the Tower of Babel in yet another time period as well.

Spoilers! Mike sure does get over guilt quite quickly. Would really think he’d at least help clean up the fire after that, but I guess he figures do what he came there for as quickly as possible to ensure no other mistakes occur in the process. I’m wondering if Linda Hammond’s death is why Jones is there.

Spoilers! It’s had some slow parts, but it picks up pretty well once he makes it back in time. I really like the additional time traveler, adding to the complexity of the timeline conundrum, and Mike’s quick thinking to deter him.

Jordan Van is starting After Suicide: There’s Hope for Them and for You
Introduction was slightly redundant “we have both suffered the loss of someone close to us”. There Really is Hope for Them, just did not sit well with me as an opener. Nothing the author says is wrong and I understand its importance, but the reader is likely entering this book with fresh grief and right off the bat, let’s “emphasize” what a terrible and rash choice their loved one made. Just seems too soon.

I often wonder if I’m lacking a child like faith due to my constant questioning. The questions and answers covered in this book have ensured I most definitely do have a childlike faith because they weren’t even on my radar prior to beginning to read. Some say the first three chapters are hard to get through, but not because they’re disinteresting, only in the sense of attempting to achieve full comprehension.

I’m so sick of the ape that it’s made me not want to continue reading. The antichrist is so deceptive, yet the reader has an omniscient perspective, preventing them from gaining a more human experience. I get it’s for children but coming from Lewis’ non-fiction and even Till We Have Faces, it’s jarring that he doesn’t give the reader an ounce of space to make their own revelations.

The believability of the time travel is lacking and much time is wasted on the main character failing to understand he’s in a parallel dimension, but I think that shows his ignorance to counteract his pride and I may just be overly critical of these subjects.

I’ve really enjoyed the humorous nature of the conversations between the main character and his wife, and with Lennie. I can’t help but appreciate the authors ability to frame this obnoxious, sarcastic, self-absorbed, antihero of a main character in such a laughable manner.
