He was a dirty snuff-dipping Court House figure, famous all over the county for being rich, who wore hightop shoes, a string tie, a gray suit with a black stripe in it, and a yellowed panama hat, winter and summer. His teeth and hair were tobacco-colored and his face a clay pink pitted and tracked with mysterious prehistoric-looking marks as if he had been unearthed among fossils.

Aldarion and Erendis was a beautiful and tragic Tolkien love story. Shame it’s “unfinished”.

I love the way O’Connor describes people. She had a way with voice.

A Good Man is Hard to Find.

You know where the story is going, but that doesn’t make it any less…. Uh….. wow.

I am certainly not understanding everything in this book. It’s readable and fascinating and really makes you think. I love how engaging it is, asking the reader questions or providing challenges.

A few new takeaways so far:
Don’t trust your intuition. It’s wrong a lot.
Probability is about the data and the odds, no matter what you feel.
We are all so so so gullible and stubborn.

Up next: A Good Man is Hard to Find

O'Connor has been surprising. Startling. Wonderful writing and no clue where she is going in a story.

Slowly churning my way through this one. It's simultaneously interesting and boring.

This has been absolutely incredible as a daily devotional. I loved the Songs of Jesus, and this one is just as good or better.

Continuing on with my year of mostly short fiction, I dive back into the life & times of Harry Dresden. It's just like watching episodes of favorite tv shows here, brief tales with familiar feelings. So far so good.

These have been hit or miss. Some really interesting stuff, and some real crap too.

First story was great! Next two less so!

Oof. Pray Without Ceasing was a tough one. Hard story there

Surprisingly great so far, and so sad

Just finished “Word & Flesh”. That was a macabre story for Stuart. Reminded me of some old crazy occult story in a cemetery. Wild!

Just finished “Toes.” This was an exceptional story, reminiscent of other Southern Gothic but with the Appalachian mix. Funny and tragic both.

Two stories down - The Geranium and The Barber. Provocative and enjoyable so far. Not sure what all is waiting for me!

Fascinating so far

I am thoroughly enjoying this daily devotional. Keller's words and succinct style is almost always a hit.

Definitely not as engaging or enjoyable as the previous volumes, but not bad either. Just a strange plot and pace of the book so far...
