Surprise michigan almost immediately: Kalamazoo

Surprise Michigan: “Summer after tenth grade, Anthony invited me to visit him in the small town of Lowell, Michigan, where he went to stay with his mom’s side of the family”

Surprise michigan: “They call themselves the Disciples… they started as a militia down in Michigan”

Just not feeling this one

Surprise Michigan: “perhaps we became involved in the campaign for justice for two Filipina nurses accused of murder at a VA hospital in Michigan”

(This happened at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital in 1975, making this a classic hometown surprise Michigan)

As good as Blacktongue Thief. Unfortunately, it’s also as grimdark but without Kinch around to lighten the proceedings.

Surprise: Ursula K. LeGuin’s dad??

surprise michigan: Traverse City Film Festival

Puck, not Ariel

surprise michigan: “he has a daughter up in Michigan”

Was getting the feeling this one wasn’t for me, then read a review mentioning a (past) rape is a plot point. That’s not entertainment in my world, so hard pass and DNF.

This book is all over the place, but I think I’ll push through

This one seems like it could be cute. But I bounce hard off mother characters like this, and sone aspects of the writing lead me to have low confidence overall.

After sleeping on it, this is going to be a DNF for me :/

Love the flooded future setting, but considering DNF for the aggravating POV character. She’s an unreliable narrator but not in a fun way, and I don’t know if I want to spend much more time with her and her dumb decisions.

“He told her about how he grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan”

Not feeling it, despite the psychic cats

Getting a bad feeling about this one. I don’t have a lot of patience for adults who won’t use their words. I have even less patience for books whose plots would collapse with the barest shred of communication.

DNF due to bad vibes, and after looking into it i think this isn’t a book for me: SA, abusive relationships, animal death
