They just kissed, SQUEEEEEEE!!!

(Why didn't y'all tell me reading romance is this much fun? And I'm at 57% and they kissed, so obviously the rest of the book will be smooth sailing for the characters, right? Right? Hello?)

DNF. Will try again next October. (The idea is to read one chapter a night in October, and the book takes the entire month. I got behind and then didn't want to do the "catchup" thing. I liked what I read of it, though!)

Loving it, as expected (GGK is my favorite living author). I do wish the marketing had more explicitly clarified this novel's relationship with GGK's last, A BRIGHTNESS LONG AGO. It's not *quite* a direct sequel, but many characters are shared and this one takes place after BRIGHTNESS, so fresh familiarity with the older work may benefit reading this one.

We have now reached the point in this book where I read just about all that is left through tears. (If you're wondering, it's the battle in the Sacred Grove and the coming of the Ghost Ship at the Anor.)

About halfway through, and I'm wondering what the damned point of this book is. I'm almost ready to just skim the rest to see how it turns out and call it a day. Luckily I got this for $.50 at a library book sale, out of curiosity, because I'd hate to have paid full price for it. Strange book.

Rough guess as to percentage, but I finished STARSHINE, the first book in the series this omnibus collects, and I love it! I'll be slating the rest of this onto my Winter TBR. Yay!

Quote: "It's interesting, isn't it, that Tracy and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE are the most referenced things in Bond movies, even though George Lazenby is all but forgotten?"

It's shit like this that make want to fling this book into the flames of a roaring campfire.

Last night I read the chapter where Lipp shits all over ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, which is my favorite Bond movie ever. Tonight I'm reading her shitting all over FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, which I hold to be in my personal Top Five. This book is starting to piss me off.

I will either finish this or throw it against the wall. This book is fun and maddening. It's like talking to someone in a shared fandom who has the EXACT opposite opinions as you.

The factual errors really rankle, though. Dolly in MOONRAKER does NOT have braces! The first E in SPECTRE does NOT stand for "Executor"! In casual fandom that's OK, but not in an Ultimate Fan Book.

I just started this today and I'm already 96 pages in and will likely knock off more this evening. I've never read anything by Paolini before, but so far this thing is a PAGETURNER.

I guess it's to be expected, given TESB's darker tone, but so far this book just isn't nearly as much fun as the ANH one was. Several stories early on focus on characters or beings who don't survive the first act of the movie, which is kind of a downer. The story "A Good Kiss", about the Rebel who walks right between Han and Leia in the hallway, is a keeper, though.

Not far in, but there's some excellent character work here! It's a big world but Amarego keeps the focus tight to start with, establishing close, personal conflicts and the "wider" ones that I assume will dominate the book. Enjoying it thus far!

There's a sentient idiosyncratic cat in this. I am now nervous, because I ended up despising the last comic I read that had a sentient idiosyncratic cat in it.

Huh...somehow this was marked 'Read' in my books! I have, in fact, NOT read it. Weird! I'm just starting now. (I *have* checked it out of the library before and not got 'round to it, so maybe I screwed up my shelving at some point.)

Anyway, 4 pages in and the art in this is EYE-POPPING. Some of these panels should be enlarged and framed.

Brooks writes a good action scene, I'll give him that! There are too many of them, though. Not nearly enough character moments. All this action makes me think his world is nothing but ways you can get killed.

And I'm past the 1/3 point, but unless I'm not remembering one, I don't think there has been a single female character in this entire book to this point

I'm pretty sure I read this BEFORE I read Tolkien back in the day, because I don't recall the obvious LOTR template being this obvious back then. Unless I was very oblivious as a young reader. (I think I read this in 7th grade?)

And I *really* wish Brooks had broken his very long paragraphs of description up a bit more. Enjoying it, but yeah, it's dated.

I haven't read the Shannara books since I was in high school, so this is a visit to my own primordial literary past, I suppose. I remember the book being infodumpy at first, but WOW, is it infodumpy! At one point Alannon actually says to our heroes, "As you know...." before talking on! Yikes.

Look, I try not to be *that guy*, but if you're going to put a book out there that's a REALLY DEEP DIVE into STAR WARS, you can't misspell 'Wookiee'.
