p. 68: "They passed by a still, almost perfectly circular pond, faintly misted over. It looked like a gently clouded mirror, and in the mysterious tangle of water plants growing around the edge, a bullfrog croaked hoarsely. Garraty thought the pond was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen."

Very different writing style from 'The Troop' and 'The Queen.' I really like it so far.

p. 40: "A small swaggering boy in patched denim overalls walked along with them for almost a mile, then sat down and watched them go by."

p. 53: "One old lady stood frozenly beneath a black umbrella, neither waving nor speaking nor smiling . . . Not a sign of life or movement about her except for the wind-twitched hem of her black dress."

If this were a movie, you'd be sick of the jump scares.

Ehh.

Whoever wrote the description of this book comparing it to *Midsommar* is a feckless dolt who should be forced to write blurbs for the next 20 jock romantic novel series -- and they don't get to use hockey, football, figure skating x hockey, baseball, basketball, or soccer as the sport.
