Reading this aloud to the almost third grader

I remember LOVING this book in fourth grade. I found it and am reading it aloud to my daughter.

“On a nice dry spit of land known as the moral high ground” suggested the Major.
It’s taken me a lot of work to get into this book, but I’m glad I did

Trying this again. I abandoned it the first time but two readers I trust loved it, so I’m trying again.

So far the story is engaging and the characters are lovely, but there have been several typo/editing errors which make me crazy
