Frost's enlistment is “for the duration of the war but not to exceed one year”. In training camp he declines the offer of a desk job. In a letter, he fears the war will be over before he gets to Britain; he wants to “see a little active service before returning to the life of a bank clerk.”

I got as far as the Wife of Bath's Tale, but I think I shall stop here. I've been comparing parts of his retelling to the original, and I fear that much of the original has been lost. I think that I shall look for a translation that keeps truer to Chaucer's version.
