Honestly a pretty bad book. I'm interested in the ways that Eurocentric narratives can be empirically disproven, but the book is trapped within the very framework it wants to supersede. Kenneth Pomeranz's The Great Divergence is incomparably better, as it leaves these arbitrary, anachronistic units of "east", "west", or "nation" behind and focuses instead on networks of exchange and important nodes of development.
