“A lot of human endeavour is based on the fact that you won’t be able to make it…the possibility of human failures makes human effort worthwhile, just as the possibility of death makes human life worthwhile”

Starting this book after attending Dr. George Paul’s book launch today.

I hope gain some perspective and insights about the lesser noticed side of public health discourse - ageing and death.

Aathishree is starting Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History (Maus, #1)
I’ve been wanting to read Art Spiegelman’s Maus since high school, when I specialised in WW2 and Holocaust studies. It’s taken me almost 4 years to finally get to it.

The more I read the book and the closer I am to finishing it the more eager I am to watch the movie just to see and feel the characters visually. At the same time I’m already judging the movie for presumably not representing the book to the T. For example, I bet the Benoit sisters don’t even show up in the background even though their part was lovely to read in the book! Hmph!

I was just as surprised as Juliet for not thinking of it sooner when Sidney pointed out that Juliet’s book should centre around Elizabeth McKenna!

Also, I’m starting to like Juliet’s growing infatuation with Dawsey. I hope it ends in love.

The lives of the people of Guernsey and their letters to Juliet in London remind me of this cozy little witchy farming game I play called Wylde Flowers. Since it’s a game and the player is the main character, everything revolves around the activities of the main character, everyone dotes on her as well and they all lead these simple but intriguing lives. How wonderful that we can live like this too?

Reading about the slave workers in Guernsey during the German Occupation brought back memories from the other stories I read about WW2 and the Nazi concentration camps. The movies and books - Life Is Beautiful; Schindhler’s List; The Boy In The Striped Pajamas; Man’s Search For Meaning - can be nothing compared to the real thing but I felt the agony and I feel it again.
