I don't want to finish this book but it's rushing to a dramatic conclusion. Wonderful!

Kolbert is a great writer on environmental issues. Her prose is crystal clear and compelling. Like all good journalists, she has her eyewitness boots on the ground.

This reads like an exciting novel about Nobel prize winning scientists, titans of industry and engineering, and ruthless economic competition. Great geopolitical foundation for understanding our (U.S.) current Asian partners and rivals. It won the FT best biz book in 2022.
Highly recommend.

Totally enjoying this crazy cast of characters and looking forward to Towles pulling the plot threads together.

This is brutal.

Riveting search for God in a Mcarthy-esqe dystopia. The 16 year old narrator has a startling, perceptive intelligence.

This chapter on banking fraud is hilarious. Its the revenge of the Nigerian feminists.

Adichie blames men for pretty much every evil that has befallen her woman friends. She makes a compelling case for her harsh judgement.
Her description of NIgerian banking corruption:
" Foreigners go on and on about the challenges of emerging markets, not knowing that the biggest is the hubris of irresponsible men"

This is my fifth Elena Ferrante. I bow before "her".
This absolutely has to be written by a woman. Outstanding.

This book is short so it left out a table of contents which I find stingy.
The chatty author gives too much personal information.

The history of modernity told through molecules. Great Chemistry refresher.

I didn't read about the controversy surrounding this whistle-blowing book in advance. So I was surprised to find the first few chapters are wildly self absorbed. Alert! There is fine print on the front cover that warns "a memoir".

Worth reading. Full review pending.

Khaled was displaced by tyranny and never recovered from the loss of his country. He forged lifelong bonds with fellow exiled countrymen and these nearly blood relationship sustained him. London was good to him but it's not the same. Nothing can ever replace home and family.

Such beautiful writing: I can't wait to finish it.
