I’m quitting. This reads like kiddie snuff porn. I don’t understand how it’s considered a classic.

I’m more than halfway through and I don’t care.

I’m 80 % done with this book and I don’t want it to end!

I prefer space operas to other sci-fi genres, and Becky Chambers is an author I think I’d like to read more of. I read her Hugo-winning novella, A Psalm for the Wild-Built, and enjoyed it.

Martine’s style is precious, bordering on praetentious.

Matthew Venn is a miserable bastard. Ann Cleaves’ England is hard to come back to after spending time in Three Pines, QC.

Vomit zombies. I’m reading a book that has vomit zombies in it.

I’m at 48% of this Kindle Unlimited book, and I’m looking down with every page turn to see if the percentage has gone up. Not good. The female characters (other than the MC) are all ditsy or venal or both, leading me to believe the author is a female misogynist.

Reading about Kesrith makes me homesick for Silithus on Kalimdor. Which is awful, because Silithus was such a barren, ugly zone in World of Warcraft.

Reading Scalzi after G.R.R. Martin is like swimming in clear water after dragging myself out of a sewer.

Three chapters so far, and rape mentioned in every one. Martin is obsessed with rape.

I’ve got a new game — I award the author points for every chapter that doesn’t mention rape. So far, he has no points.

This one is slow going. I’m having trouble sustaining interest in the internecine struggles of the Greyjoys and in the unsuccessful search of Brienne for Sansa.

I’m getting tired of Cat’s whining.

This has all the earmarks of a classic gothic—a wealthy bride whose money is tied up by trustees; a handsome, spendthrift husband who wisks the bride away to a remote medieval house right after the wedding; husband’s wealthy ward, who may be mad; a suspiciously beautiful governess en famille; and the bride’s plucky but inexperienced sister, determined to save the day.

Stalled. Sancia’s and Gregor’s backstories seem more interesting than what’s currently going on. Also, I fear this novel may suffer from Dresden Syndrome: That thing of when an author thinks every scene has to be ACTION-PACKED, and the reader eventually doesn’t care anymore. (That last sentence courtesy of Stefon.)

So far, Gregor seems too stupid to live.

It sucks to be a girl. It sucks to be a Jew. It sucks to be poor. It sucks to be beaten by your parent. It sucks to be powerless.

I knew all this already.

I’m getting that itchy feeling. That one that whispers, “I could solve this case in three chapters.”

This book needs a trigger warning for victims of child abuse.

I wish I could highlight the entirety of the story I’m about to read, “Lord Emsworth and the Girl Friend,” so I could lure everyone who reads this update into reading my favorite Lord Emsworth short story, and one of my three favorite Wodehouse tales.

Not liking the vituperativeness — vituperativity? — of Mary. She’s turning into a harridan.
