god damn Ava Reid can string a sentence together, but I still feel like the time period being evoked plays a bit too fast and loose for me. it gives aesthetically late 1950s/early 1960s but feels just like that - aesthetics
whatever, it's a fantasy novel, I don't need everything to be a 1:1 real-world analog. just remembered that this bothered me in the first book too so I'm documenting it here
