I had to abandon this book. It was just so cheesy, and it made me sad. The way the author wrote about the residents of Rockport, as if they are all close-minded, unfriendly people is nothing like reality. Maybe if it was in a mythical place, I could have finished it, but since it is set in a town full of amazing people, I couldn’t tolerate it.

I’ve read a lot of books this summer, but so far this is one of my favorites. I wasn’t sure if it would be a keeper or not, so I checked it out from the library. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be ordering multiples now because everyone in my family needs to read it!

Great intro and first chapter- not a dry read at all- I’m looking forward to discussing this in an online book study throughout the summer!

Loved this book. Not a quick read, but a worthwhile one. I loved the changes in perspective between chapters. Sometimes this could make a book choppy, but not this one. Kingsolver masterfully weaves a story of a family and of a country.
