I’ve had to borrow this from Libby a second time because listening to it has been SUCH a slog. It’s for a book club I’m in. I’m trying to be interested. I just don’t particularly care? I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I had never heard of Dick Goodwin before. Maybe I just wish it was focused more on particular events? I don’t know.

Is it bonkers and melodramatic? Yeah. Is he an alphahole? Yeah. Is there miscommunication? Yeah. Do I normally hate all of this? Yeah.

But somehow it’s working for me. It’s in Cornwall and it’s beautifully described. He learns as he goes and tries to do better. There’s a great cast of characters. She’s pretty awesome. Goddamn I’m loving this.

But I kinda don’t like how people are nicer to her because she cut her hair, wears makeup, and upgrades her wardrobe. While I agree with the treat yourself mindset, I hate how materialistic and shallow folks are.
