Very excited and really looking forward to Shades of Yellow (my fifth novel!) being published this year. It's my novel about writing Tudor novel - but also a novel about themes close to my heart.

Now with its editor, the brilliant Cindy Vallar http://www.cindyvallar.com.

To be published by Other Terrain Press on September 7th 2025.

How I treasure my beta readers! Their feedback about Shades of Yellow has left me feeling so motivated and encouraged. How can I not feel motivated and encouraged when I read feedback saying that my new novel child has the potential to be my best novel yet. Still work to do, but that is only to be expected at this stage of writing. Now back to the MS to add that sex scene my last beta reader wants in the story...

Hugging the fact to me that one of my beta readers enjoyed Shades of Yellow so much in its early life that she gave it five star rating! Still work to do on it, but I'm moving closer to the day it will be published!

Not too certain if 83% really reflects the status of a manuscript at the beginning of the process in becoming a published work. Shades of Yellow is now with its first beta readers. It really has a long way to go before it steps out into the published world. But I am feeling happy to see this work reach this stage. And very grateful to have wonderful people willing to beta read my new work...

I must like poetic titles for my novels! Cowslips in the Morn fits far better the overall theme of my new novel than to use Amy, the Beloved - which is the title of the novel my character Lucy is writing. Now I have to get used to my new title!

Hmmm - just returned home after spending the weekend with two friends and fellow writers. They know this new work of mine very well, and believe I should give the novel another title. Amy, the Beloved is the novel my character Lucy is writing. They think that means I should have another title for the novel I am writing. Actually, sometime ago, I asked myself this very question. Now I'm back to wondering...

Excited!!! I have finished the first draft of Amy, the beloved! Now the fun really begins - push this draft through a few times to get it ready for my beta readers. Hoping my beta readers will have the work by the end of March. Must get to them by the end of March! I have a structural editor booked for July.

This is something I have wanted to write for years. And the first draft is done!!!

There are times when the challenges of writing a book set in England – does not matter if it's fiction or nonfiction – in Australia truly frustrates me. Lucy is in Wymondham, Norfolk at the moment. I now know how to pronounce ‘Wyn-dem’ but attempting to visualise this town through Lucy’s eyes has been so hard...

So thrilled to be finally over 70000 words. And the end of the first draft is in sight too! Sigh - but must work out a way to get to England in 2023/4 so I can walk the same paths as my Lucy does in this novel. Do hope she does not end up murdering her almost divorced husband during their time together...interesting plot line, but doesn't really fit a novel about finding forgiveness....

Lucy, my main character, has just decided on a chickpea curry for her take away dinner. Sigh - looks like I will have make one so I can remind myself what it tastes like. The things we do to get words onto a page!

Review notes. Savouring this book slowly. St John writes so poetically and powerfully. Her world building is superb. Truly a book that takes you back into time...
