When not written like a freshman english major churning out content for LinkedIn posts, just absolutely rife with typos, repeated clauses, paragraphs out of order or repeated wholesale (the Mohammed Aziz chapter has an entire page repeated!), overwritten speaker tags, illogical transitions - a mess. $125k in Kickstarter funding and not a single beta reader apparently.

My dad has to be stopped from spending money on things he sees on Facebook. The idea behind this book is admirable - I too enjoy stories and am all for the promotion of literacy - but it’s very clear that it’s a self-published vanity object - the back has a pull quote from the author, the side has a big ugly FIRST EDITION tag (that only matters if it’s a book people want to buy…), and the editing? Non-existent.

far be it from me, who gave up writing his first semester of college, to criticize someone with a book merely because they are a tiktoker…i’m kidding that’s exactly how far i am. *edward teller voice* until they build a worse john green… i think people who went to harvard should be put down like dogs

This is gonna sound weird but I’m a little put off by this not seeming to be set in a certain time. Reviews I skimmed seem to indicate it was “the present” but then there’s an offhand reference to Flickr which hasn’t been relevant in probably ten (?) years and then another mention of Amy’s Pizza Rolls which weren’t introduced until late 2017, leaving the narrator to function as a character out of True Time.

pausing here because i feel like i’m not taking any of this in. rich people’s childhoods have too many things going on, why can’t they just labor under the impression they’ve read every kids book at their suburban library and watch the same four episodes of scooby doo on dvd over and over. now that would be relatable!
