Time for me to be properly introduced to the Cane brothers after having heard about them in various other Meghan Quinn's books.

Chapter 2
"Dear God," Ollie says while pinching the bridge of her nose. "Fine, go flirt. But you are not to leave this bar until I'm safe from this overlord."
"Overlord ? I ask. "Jesus Christ."
"Well, come on. Can't you just be a good Samaritan and do something for a damsel in distress without needing something in return ? What happened to white knights ?"
"Equal opportunity for all. That's what happened," I answer.

Chapter 2

“Do you call each other by your last names?” I ask. “Because I’m barely hanging on to who everyone is.”

I totally get the heroine. Between the use of surnames, first names and nicknames, it's kind of hard to remember who's who while listening. However I love the group dynamic of these guys and hopefully I'll quickly end up remembering who's who.

🤔 I didn't remember that Remi had his own pack.

I'm giving this series a second chance. Let's see if I enjoy it more in audiobook format.

I eye the belt. He's still holding it. "I don't do spankings."
"What if I do?" He slides it ominously along his palm.
"Then you can pass that over, and I'll do my best not to feel bad about smacking you around with it."
Some of the heavy mood dissipates, and Randy cracks a smile.

He clung to Illium's voice, that thread of wild blue normality. I'll tell Eh-ma you've been snapping at me since you arrived in China.
I have not.
It was a silly, juvenile conversation, and it was exactly what Aodhan needed to find his feet. Which Illium would well know.

All those back-and-forth between past and present are starting to drive me mad. I just want for the story to go forward!

"What the punish-ent?" Aodhan whispered.
"School. Write letters. Stay inside." Illium had once tried to point out that he was too young for school - and Raphael had pointed out that Illium was too young to be trying to fire a crossbow, and "yet didn't I just find you dragging a crossbow on the ground with felonious intent?"

Little Illium was so mischievous 😂

I'm picturing Ena Mercant as Queen Elizabeth II 😆
