If Mary Roach’s goal was to write a book that would make readers look insane because they are smiling and giggling while reading a book about cadavers, I fear she has succeeded.

I’m teetering between wanting to continue this and not…I think the writing is beautiful, but I don’t know how connected I am to the story as a whole.

I love how this is formatted! Cold hard facts interspersed with Renee’s recollections of what happened to her and her family. There have already been a few things she shares that left me physically ill.

Collections are historically my least favorite thing to read, so we will see if I can finish this.

I was really hoping she would go all John Green on these essays and be really profound…but so far this is literally just field notes and sketches about the birds in her backyard. Go figure 🤪

10% in and Ada hasn’t even been mentioned yet…
