Currently blowing my mind. I had studied this a bit in college as a history major, but forgotten a lot of it too. Amazing!

I’m about 1/3 of the way through this and can’t tell you how much I hate it. The characters are all one dimensional. The narrator is the most annoying, virtue signaling dingbat in the universe. The mom is a complete moron. The dad is a caricature of an ogre. The only character I don’t completely hate thus far is little bro.

This book sucks in a major way. Gonna finish because I’ve gotten so close to the end, but my god what a ridiculous, derivative heap of trash this is

So far so good…classic Barron with a huge dollop of noir.

Man do I love this novel-I think this could be made into an incredible series like True Detective style-there are so many elements to this bizarre novel. It’s a story within a story within a story within a story...it’s fantastic. Like Lovecraft, Barron has crafted a self contained mythology that is utterly terrifying and mystifying.

Currently re-reading this book. I am always in awe at how amazing Laird Barron is at creating an atmosphere of complete dread in even seemingly mundane things. I’m enjoying this novel as much now as I did the first go round-frankly I feel like it’s a brand new read because of details I missed before. Huge fan!

Not going to do a reading challenge this year as I don’t want my reading to have a goal-instead, I’m going to take my time and enjoy the books I have instead of speeding through them to meet a deadline. I also intend to catch up on the backlog of books I currently do own instead of buying new ones-lots good stuff in the home library just sitting there!!

Wow...what an opening hook. Reminds me of Barker’s Lord of Illusions with some Adam Nevill the Reddening and King Children of The Corn thrown in for good measure. I love folk /esoteric religious horror stories...ever sincerity’s reading Children of the Corn I can’t get enough of this type of story!

This may be one of the more boring books I’ve read in awhile. I keep waiting for anything to happen, but it’s just a lot of exposition

Just bought Devil’s Creek and the short story collection of Todd Keisling, after just finishing Final Reconciliation. It’s awesome to find a new author that just hits home from an entertainment perspective.Other authors recently that have had same effect are Nathan Ballingrud and Adam Neville. Love a great horror story!

The book reads like a Preston and Child book more than a king or hill book as author Nick Petrie claims on the inside cover...not that it’s a bad thing, but so far this could be a Pendergast novel with names changed.

I’ve been jumping around this one...I have to say this is a collection of some of the WORST horror stories I’ve ever read. These stories have a more Transgressive Fiction flavor, but even then they aren’t good by that standard. Only one story about “poop monsters” from the sea was remotely horror driven and it was not a great story.

This is crazy, but it somehow works. I’m not a Mumbo jumbo person, but damnit I said many of the lines in this book, low and behold-Sales came out the woodwork. I’ll take it 😉 I am a child of Fortune 😃
