I read a lot of books, which I think are good. Then I start reading Mark Billingham and I realise that this guy knows how to rightz and those other authors are still working on it

This is such a nice book, full of lovely, larger than life characters. I really hope there isn't a nasty twist in the tale

A very graphic start shows this is not a children's novel.our 'hero' having sex with a woman who transforms into some kind of vampiric creature which he instantly kills
In a nearby inn he sees an elf on stage,having bottles thrown at her.He equips a kind of crossbow to his wrist and shoots these men in their eyes, throats,faces.Killing them all bar one.Sending him to tell his boss that the black swordsman is in town.

Challenged to read this by my son, Tobey and in turn he's going to read my favourite book of the year so far, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

the 2nd story is 'The Mask'. A sculptor has created a liquid, which when something is submerged, the clear liquid becomes like milk and then pearlescent before a ray of light is emitted. Retrieving the sunken object at that precise moment reveals that it has become marble. Very handy for a sculptor.

'The repairer of reputations' is a strange story told from the point of view of a man who is gradually going insane after reading the play, 'The King in Yellow.'

I'm not accustomed to reading fantasy, other than the Hobbit and Lord of the rings, which were great, I've always struggled to get into the world building.
I've just finished the prologue and this book feels quite special.

Bloody hell Karin! Just as you think you know where this story is going, BAM! She rips your heart out.
