Did not finish this book as it's quite outdated now

Written in 2000, this is the story of an English village that decides to cut itself off from the wider world so as not to spread the plague. More importantly it is the story of a strong woman and her growth through suffering and hardship and how she manages to survive. There is some resonance with the covid lockdowns of more recent years. Aa me tioned before it is quite sombre in tone but leaves us with hope.

Lovely writing but such a sombre theme.

I don't know why this book has been praised. I found it tedious and just could not get involved with the characters.

A fascinating of the first man known to circumnavigate Tasmania and then Australia in an age of limited navigation technology and unreliable ships.

What an interesting life Gina has had. Her humanity shines through and her writing is delightful.
