Just finished the chapter on the Virtuous Circle (good institutions making more good institutions) and am now into the Vicious Circle (bad making bad) which is a lot more depressing

The virtuous circle! Recently compared the gradual shift in Great Britain towards inclusive institutions to the rapid change of the French Revolution. The authors state that gradual is better on account of it being much more difficult for political elite to resist, and in that the changes are more durable.

Learning some French history, and that voting secretly by ballot started in Australia after a country of convicts got rights!!

Learning about dual economies and even more examples of inclusive vs extractive economies! This is a complex process!!

Finished all of the intro now! Beginning to get into the meat and potatoes of this nobel prize-winning theory!

Book is great! Turns out that there was a moderately-well followed idea during the time of the bubonic plague that the best way to avoid death was to live freely and merrily which explains “the women in the following period being significantly less chaste”
