Steve Bedford is on page 29 of 544 of The Gulag Archipelago
Constant refrain: "this is not fiction. This actually happened. Each sentence is about a real life person."

I can't wrap my head around it. Good.

Something about this world has grown on me. I was so so about the first one, but they have gotten progressively more enjoyable. I'm loving this one!

This one feels a lot different from the first two. Big stuff is happening, but the premise feels slightly out of left field. I'm glad to keep reading, and glad for something unexpected... Just wish we got more Holden and less of the other characters. Seems like the balance isn't quite as strong as Caliban's War.

I must say, I'm enjoying this one a lot more than Leviathan Wakes.

Interesting so far, though I'm not sure the book is any more interesting, compelling, or informative than the articles I read on their website.

Mars is not a character in this book. That is a supreme issue with a book about colonizing a planet. If you can take the whole story and supplant it back onto earth and nothing really changes, that's a problem.

It's as if she decided to write this book because she might meet some hot astronauts, but found out that today's space flights are mostly about science and not dick wagging test pilots , so she got lost in the 60's version of NASA instead. Which is all fine, but don't name it packing for Mars. Name it Packing for Apollo

Half way through and you're still going on about early scientists being fearful of weightlessness? This is the worst named book ever...

Thus far, everything covered could be learned from a 30 minute documentary on the making of Apollo 13. I feel cheated...

This book frustrates me, and I finally figured out why. Aside from the author's colloquial voice, and convoluted sentence structure, it's the fact that I'm 1/3 of the way throw, and she's hardly mentioned Mars at all. The title would imply deep-space missions, but thus far, it has been entirely about LEO. Where's my hard science? Where's my exploration of the unknown?

Not entirely sure why I'm continuing to read. My fascination with economics says I should call my progress a sunk cost and move on (a lesson I dearly wish I had employed on Jonathan Strange, et al), but there is just barely enough a glimmer of hope that I will enjoy this that I trudge on.

Some messed up stuff going on in the middle ages, especially on the authority of the church. I guess that's a common theme throughout history though.
