If I didn't have to read this book for class, I would've put it down by now. This book was out of print by the time Melville died and honestly, I suspect that it's America's nostalgia for its romaticised past that allowed this book to become a Great American Novel.

Author is basically choosing to ignore intersectionality. Do I give up now or persevere with hope? Suggesting there's a homogeneity across lesbian experiences - or the experience of any group, for that matter - is stupid. And it's paradoxical to claim that and still also claim that culture informs experience. I'm angry at this book already.

Apparently it's best to read the Eternal stuff before continuing Snyder's other series. So here we go.

So the Justice League make an appearance. I was hoping I could skip from Graveyard Shift to this one, but it looks like I'll have to read Batman Eternal first. So putting this on hold till then.

I think this book just misgendered a main character. Through a typo. Either that or they're gender queer and flexible with pronouns. But that hasn't been stated yet and seems unlikely.

Curse the dumb fuck who put a price sticker on the cover of this book. I tore off half the cover as I peeled off the sticker. And it's a double sided book so there isn't even a back cover.

"She hit like a girl, without any weight behind it" (p. 253) - as if this isn't bad enough. But then Quentin says "if only she could put things in perspective. Fucking women" (p. 255) Proving once again that Quentin is a shit, who totally disregards his girlfriend's feelings and is undeserving of her. The misogyny in this book is strong, and I haven't worked out if it's Grossman or whether it's just Quentin.

I don't know that there's been a single woman in this entire book so far that Quentin hasn't made a sexual comment about. It's highly disturbing.

Quentin is already whinging about how a girl won't sleep with him. Is this how this book is going to be? Poor shy teen who can't sleep with his best friend's girlfriend? Because that's dull.

Struggling. I've liked some of Marchetta's other books, but I'm not on board with her fantasy.

Less than a quarter of the way through this and I've already decided I have to buy a copy.

The story about Marie Curie is fantastic. So sad, yet so triumphant.

Fuck yes. "French Lesson I: Le Muertre" was amazing. That's the kind of story I live for.

This is really not very good. I'm not understanding the hype.
