I abandon more books than not these days, and especially books I need the time to read with my eyes (ie, I’m doing a lot of audiobooks these days), but even tho I really don’t have time to read, I am finding 5 minutes here and there wherever I can because it’s really fun to read. Also, very into the homonormative cloister upbringing.

I’m hooked. So many good characters already.

Wow, it is crazy how much I want to learn this method given how much I hate this book. Her use of comparative social "data" is both wrong and racist. She spends so much time misrepresenting the science undergirds both the philosophy and techniques. And yet! The technique seems to actually work! So I soldier on.

I have every intention of trying to learn this method for my second labor, but, Goddess, the author's weak grasp of reproductive (evolutionary) biology combined with her essentializing of maternity is making it tough to stick with.

I have been picking around and this, and I have to say I've been disappointed that it's not more helpful. Is it more for people in their first few years of grad school perhaps?

I am losing interest... sure there are plenty of fun wiles, but its missing the character development (that is, meaningful changes in the characters) that I kind of need to see to stay with it. on the other hand, I hear there will be pirates soon ...

not loving the gender assumptions or condoning of gendered domestic labor inequalities, but there is a lot in here so far I haven't gotten from reading other such books.

Done with chapter 1. Mostly interested in seeing how the temporal aspects of analyzing meaning play out.

I really wasn't feeling this last chapter. I don't care about poetry.

The introduction was not intimidating, though I wasn't always sure how my variables corresponded with the ones he was defining.

Loving this so far. I can see why so many people use it. Definitely his discussion of Government Through Families underlies Cruikshank's stuff on empowerment

oh I'm liking the discussion of Kant and Rousseau and the move towards a self-chosen life

Some really good stuff on p.342 about the significance of human life as a constitutive good of morality.

I'm beginning to tire of the constant focus on religion ...

oh man, this is kind of hard to take.

it's not that there aren't any books to be read in Quito, it's just that 100% of my reading has been from the library, and now I'm relying on ebooks and audiobooks since I moved and my selection (particularly of children's books) is just so LIMITED. Wahhh ...

the Somnambulist was definitely a favorite

I liked Painting Haiti. I remembered it so I could update about it. The stories in between this one and Sammarynda Deep, not so much.

"Sammarynda Deep" was great. It was surprisingly strong feelings the whole way through.

Read "Ghost Market" at breakfast and enjoyed it ... but felt like the real punch of it would have come from the twist emphasizing a different aspect of the character's work.

still beautiful, but I'm not sure I would give this to someone who wasn't a social scientist ...

The introduction was ... fine ... nothing mindblowing, but not a waste of time either.
