I hope to god this sticks the landing because this could easily become a re-readable favourite.

Okay the writing leaves a lot to be desired but I also can't stop reading it. I can't understand how Balen is Z's personal protector while there are assassins about and leaves him repeatedly for days at a time like that's normal. Also the internal narration will say one thing and then Balen opens his mouth a contradicts it. It's a roughly edited book but still compelling.

This book is a problem. I want to read it but life continues to exist.

Yeah, I wasn't remotely prepared for it to be this brutal and skin crawlingly creepy. Stop fucking cutting the legs off horses and laughing maniacally at slitting infant throats, Tamora Pierce, wtf? I handle gore well usually, but I went into this hoping for a gentle reunion with a childhood favourite series so I'm caught off guard. The full cast audiobook makes it worse. Jeez. I'm going soft.

For all that we're stressing that these animals are just animals with animal brains and we're NOT assigning human characteristics to them - I don't know why we have to make the dog religious. The God references aren't constant, but it's definitely present and it's irking me. Otherwise enjoyable.

Okay, the boys are reunited and I'm enjoying myself again. It's still tense as Hell, but everything is simply better when they're together.

I don't know if I can watch Ethan and Jack go through this again - the splitting up, the sacrificing themselves for each other, the doubt, the emotional torture. But I'm sure as hell not gonna be able to rest without knowing they're okay, so here we go, jumping into Hell again *hysterical laughing tears*

This is ROUGH. Really hard to read with how our guys are being dragged through Hell. Honestly? I don't know if I could forgive Jack if I were Ethan. That's one of the worst things you could do to a person, even though I know it came from feeling helpless. Reading him finding out will be harrowing and heartbreaking.

If I have be to be sick at least I can be sick with a book that make me cough with laughter. Can't say this is super restful, however. Brand is still the best. Well, Brand and Rune together. And Quinn. And Addam. Just the whole book, really.

Well, that makes TWICE I've nearly cried in public because of this book. The relationship b/w Brand and Rune is just... Overwhelming.

I'm not against the concept of a character who doesn't understand anything of the world they're in/can't read social cues etc, but this is ineptitude is being stretched the point of total disbelief. It's kinda taking me out of the story.

I was gonna make myself wait for this one a while but I'm home sick and already grumpy about it, so here we are. Ugh, these two are just stupidly adorable. And yet another, uh, fascinating cover I'll be having to hide...

The cover is absolutely absurd but the book so far is amazing. Super hard to put down.

Not into this as much as Bellet's other Sorceress series, but I'm still having a good time.
