The Mycroft reference is funny, but it doesn't work well for me. The author can't use his name for obvious reasons, but for Robert to keep his name secret out of respect after the way he acts? I'd have had no respect for him, wouldn't have kept his secrets, and see no reason Robert would. So the only reason the character acts the way he does is because the author needs him to.

His "choices"? His mother disapproved of "his choices" aka being born gay? I buy it if she said exactly that, but the actually gay character thinking of it in those terms? That's problematic...

Okay so this book is actually this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6..., and so probably shouldn't be listed by itself. So far my instinct says that 3.6 is way closer to what this book deserves than the 4.3 that this version has.

She seriously just asked her brother if he's been tested for HIV because he looks tired? And he just answered, without batting an eyelash? Am I alone in finding that kind of offensive?

So far we've got a diverse heroes, disabled heroes, and serious moral conundrums. I've never been a big YA reader, but this is the kind of thing I think YA should be.

I was hoping, but not expecting this. The diversity is excellent, and the story is fun an engaging so far. Frankly, it's a great book so far.

I love Nova and want her to win, no matter what.

It's a little heavy handed at times, but honestly I can't imagine a story where the author explores the aspects of morality that isn't a little heavy-handed.

As a writer, I get that once you've done the research, you really want to include the information in the book. Sometimes, though, it's only important for you to know, and you don't need to tell the readers what medieval Scots wore in excruciating detail.

This isn't my usual fare, but thanks to the bigoted Ivie and her review (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), I wanted to give the author my money and a review that used my brain and not just my fear of things I don't comprehend.

A looooooooot of exposition. I'll admit that some of it is necessary, but a good measure of it feels like "I made up a cool background, so you guys all have to read about it."

I don't have a problem with insta-love, but I'm not sure that's what this is. Insta-confusion? Insta-trust-for-no-reason? Kind of digging the frenemies vibe the vamps are giving off, though.

So I started this because of a conversation between Belen and Joel Leslie, so I had preexisting notions about Dog being a horrible jerk. So far, I mostly pity him. He's one of those high school yes men who stands behind the bully and nods along, but feels bad about it. It makes him a jerk, sure, but it also makes him pitiful.

I'm not sure if this is the intention, but I really hate Luke. He's been very little other than horrible to Dominic, and I'm finding it hard to get past. Like the first in this series, I'm trying to let it go because I know Hassell's writing is good.

Loving this. While I get into m/m romances for, well, the romance, I would be enjoying this one without any hint of that. The main plot is quite engaging.

Great read so far. Stalled because I'm too busy to read at the moment, but looking forward to seeing how these two get it together.

I seem to have stalled out here, not sure why. It's T.J. Klune, though, so I'm sure I'll come back to it at some point.
