Not what I thought it would be, but it’s earnest. 🥲

This is the most fun I’ve had with a graphic novel in a minute— I’m thoroughly enjoying it! So far, it feels like the first third of Mean Girls with a sprinkling of mystery, which makes for a fun and engaging read. However, what I think I appreciate most is how the dialogue and illustrations so effortlessly capture what it’s like to be a teenage girl in a new place and space occupied by new people. So. Good.

This book just got hella dark and I’m here for it! In fact, I’ve been waiting for it! However, why did it take MOST of the book to get to such an engaging point? While good, how is a book like this— published in 1993 with great themes, morals, and messages– ever supposed to compete with the attention span of today’s young readers? Hmmm… 🤔

This book is VERY SLOW… but it’s good… and while I find myself intrigued, every reading session seems to take more and more focus as I jump in. I wonder if that will change or if it’s just matter of personal taste? I guess there’s a lot to be said about giving yourself the space to read and explore what you like as opposed to what’s assigned. 🤔

Ah. So this is Divergent Prime, huh?

I’m experiencing difficulty putting the importance of this book into words, but know that the Forward and Introduction make this collection more than worth reading. 👏🏽

Picked this up again. Not a bad decision.

A solid opening! Within the first three chapters, Brittney Morris addressed what many players of Spider-Man: Miles Morales were expecting for the PS4 / PS5 add-on: how Miles’ experience as Spider-Man differs from Peter’s because of his race. Knowing Morris, I bet this is will be a central point to the story, but in doing so, I’m impressed with how well she has written Peter as Miles’ mentor thus far.

This book is so wild. American racism is absolutely horrific and the parts that politics played within it is sickening.
